Tom Sebok is the Director of the Ombuds Office at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Between 1976 and 1990 he worked as a counselor in three different community colleges. He became an ombuds person at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1990 and the Director of the office in 1992. From 1995-1999, he served as Secretary for the Board of the University and College Ombuds Association (UCOA).
He serves on the editorial board for The Journal of the California Caucus of College and University Ombuds, currently the only professional journal dedicated to ombuds practice. He has published seven articles related to ombudsing and has made numerous presentations at regional and national conferences related to ombudsing, conflict management and restorative justice. His article "Preparing for Your Mediation" is one of the most frequently downloaded articles among those at the website, www.mediate.com.
Tom is the winner of the National Academic Association's 1987 Outstanding Advisor Award, the 1998 California Caucus of College and University Ombuds Service Excellence Award, and the 2002 Stanley V. Anderson Award for Overall Service to Ombudsmen. He helped establish the University of Colorado's Restorative Justice Program, the first of its kind at a college or university in the United States. He has co-authored several journal articles on this topic and has presented numerous times at national conferences on this topic.
